Fck the mood, trust the process
Let me share a story from a recent coaching session that hit hard—for both of us.
A client called me, frustrated and shaken.
He had just received an email from his bank: his loan application was rejected. This loan was supposed to be his safety net—a life raft to float on while building his dream business.
And now, that plan was gone.
“I’m thinking maybe I should postpone my resignation,” he said. “Maybe I should stay in corporate just a little longer… you know, until things are more stable.”
At first glance, this seemed logical. But as we went deeper, the truth became clear:
The brain loves safety—even when it costs you
His brain—like all of ours—wanted to protect him. It searched for excuses, backup plans, softer landings.
But here’s what he realized:
That “safety” came at the cost of staying in a job that drained him.
The real fear wasn’t about money—it was about taking responsibility for an uncertain path.
And then, something shifted.
He said:
“This is actually the first thing in 42 years I’ve seen crystal clear. I know what I want. I know this is my purpose.”
The illusion of certainty
He looked at his corporate job as the ‘safe’ option. But is it really?
“They could cancel my contract tomorrow. That’s not certainty—that’s just comfort dressed up as control.”
And this was the moment he remembered why he started:
He had a clear vision
He knew his purpose
He had a strategy
All he needed now was to do the one thing most people avoid:
Commit for the long haul.
Not just when it’s exciting. Not only when the mood is high. But especially when things wobble.
Trust the process—no matter what
When a pilot flies from Amsterdam to Chicago, the flight path constantly adjusts. Wind. Weather. Traffic. They never fly a perfect straight line.
But they never lose sight of the destination.
That’s what commitment looks like. That’s what process-driven growth requires.
Your mood is temporary. Your purpose isn’t.
So…
A reflection for you
What is one process you trust so deeply, you’d follow it no matter what your mood says?
If you don’t have one—maybe today is the day to create it.
Because the most powerful momentum in life doesn’t come from hype or perfect timing.
It comes from consistency rooted in clarity.
Let’s fly the plane. Let the winds come. We’re still going to Chicago.
